Cankles

Cankles is a new character that I created after finding a cool piece of script on creativecrash.com called Rig Helper. After going through the rigging process with my last character, I was a bit put off, as I felt that when I was going through the tutorials, a lot of the time I didn't understand why I was doing what I was doing but this script make it simple.

I wanted to create something that wasn't human to give me something different to animate later. I also wanted to have something with a lot of weight as another aspect for animation.

Defined

This project was a collabaration of animation students and fashion photography students. We first all met up and the fashion photography students gave us a brief outline of their different concepts so we could get an idea of what projects we wanted to work on. The project I decided to work on was with Daniela Buda and Elliot Forrest and the concept was to have a dancer shot in high contrast black and white and to have the dancer interacting with different light formations.
Here is what we came up with.

Deep

Deep is Film I helped work on as part of a Uni project. The task was a basic set extension for a shot of a model house.

Here is the early concept that Elliot and I came up with. The brief was to try and create a design that was reminiscent of early horror films.

Our approach to this task was to key out the blue screen and attempt some camera stabilization to the footage as it was quite shaky. We would create the environment by digitally painting a series of plates that we would then projection map onto a 3d meshes in Maya.

here our the different plates that we created.

11 Second Club

The 11 second club is a website that holds monthly competitions where they put up a random sound clip for people to animate to. My University used this as one of our assignments for the course. We had the choice of using one of two sound tracks to animate to as the assignment was set towards the end of the November 2013 competition. After listening to the November and December sound tracks I decided that I would use the November sound track for my project. Here is some of my early concept work I produced for this project.

We could use whatever medium we wanted to to animate in an so I decided to do mine in CG as it is what I enjoy and feel most comfortable with. We were told we could use any of the pre-made character rigs that the 11 second club allow. I decided to uses the Bonnie rig for the female character but wanted to try and create my own rig for the male character as it is something I havn't done before. Here is some pics showing the progression of my character.

Rigging the character proved to be a lot more complicated than I initially thought but I found a nice set of tutorials that guided me through each step of the process at the following link.

Here is my final animation for the project.

Funny in 15

For this project we were set the task of setting up and delivering a joke in 15 seconds of animation. I worked in a group of 3 along side Laura Andrews and Jack Madeley. By far the hardest part of this project was to come up with an initial concept. Here are some early ideas.

My main role for this project was to create the layout designs for the backgrounds while Laura did the colouring and Jack did the animating. Here are the background layouts I created.

Here is how the final clip turned out.

Experimental Animation

This video was for an experimental animation project where we were given a sound clip and told to animate to it in a unique way without using computers to create movement or enhance it.

Projection Mapping

Here is my first attempt at projection mapping in Maya. This was for a university project where I had to find an artists image and adapt the style concept for animation.
